IMSI: high-magnification sperm selection

Intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI)
IMSI is a new method that complements ICSI, with the aim of improving fertilisation results.
Higher magnification improves assessment
In intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI), sperm are magnified about 14,000 times under a special microscope connected to a computer, so that even the smallest details become visible.
IMSI makes it possible to examine the sperm head for abnormalities (such as vacuoles) and to select only morphologically normal sperm before microinjection (ICSI).
Recent studies confirm that IMSI increases pregnancy rates, owing to the selection of sperm before fertilisation.
